Today’s the 16th of May and so we have a little something in honour of said day.

Have a Delahaye 165. The 165 was the posh roadgoing version of the somewhat successful 145 racer and so it inherited a magnesium 4.5 litre V12 with in the region of 230 bhp claimed, although what that would be to DIN net standards I don’t know.

Anyway, five were made, two were scrapped during WW2 and this survivor with Figoni and Falaschi body had rather a complicated history as it was sent to America for display purposes and as a result of customs difficulties was stuck there. For reasons that are unclear it wound up with a Chevrolet engine and automatic transmission. It was later bought by Peter Mullin, reunited with its engine and fully restored. Like rather too many Delahayes it’s now in the Mullin collection in California.

Despite appearances it does have wheels. Unusual features include a crank that winds down the windscreen as per the last picture. Note the unusual gearchange pattern.

Are you sure that it has wheels? Because I can find no evidence that it does.

That could easily be photoshopped.
